Just what did Welwyn Garden City residents get up to in their spare time during 1920-1970? Did you join or set up a local club or society? Were you into sports, arts, music, languages, debating, socialising? What did you collect, get active with or play at? These are some of the questions about life in Welwyn Garden City over the years that the Heritage Trust is asking members of the public to help them answer.
Welwyn Garden City Heritage Trust is now on its third and final project to bring together a detailed history of how the town lived, worked and played since it began life in 1920. The Trust now has a project office at the Weltech Business Centre and recently appointed Virginia Simpson and Vanessa Godfrey as project co-ordinators. To be a success the Trust needs your help with memories and memorabilia of how you relaxed after work or school and at the weekends. “We are particularly interested in hearing from officers of the clubs and societies in the town as many will have records and items connected with the activities they were involved with.” said project manager Tony Skottowe.
