Ever wondered how the first Welwyn Garden City citizens spent their leisure time? The 'Where Do You Think We Played?' project set out to find out. At the beginning of January 2016 the Welwyn Garden City Heritage Trust’s third community heritage project began. Having previously looked at life and work in the town it was now time for “Play”... to learn how residents organised socially and made use of their leisure time between the 1920s-1970s.
Current and ex-residents generously contributed information via recorded memories, photographs and other memorabilia; clubs and societies kindly provided material from their archives. All donations were added to the Trust’s archive on the history and development of this unique town. The material was used to create the Trust’s book ‘Where Do You Think We Played? A Look at Leisure WGC 1920-1970s’.
