On Saturday 21st May 2011 a talk was held in the Dorothy Hess Room in WGC Library. The speaker was Lewis Stockwell who is a research student at the University of Hertfordshire and had agreed to pass on his experience of using the archives at WGC Library and at Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies at County Hall, Hertford.

The Where Do You Think You Live? project is calling for residents to get involved in documenting the town.
As part of the Where Do You Think Live? Project the Trust has been able to contribute material to the Hertfordshire Memories project run by HALS Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies.
The Where Do You Think You Live? Project is funded until the end of August 2011. There has been a wealth of material donated to the Trust's archive and much more is expected to be added!
Our 'social' celebration held at Campus West was extremely well attended with over 60 guests joining us to see how the Where Do You Think You Live? Project was progressing.
We are now well over half way through our year long Where Do You Think You Live? project encompassing the oral memory recordings, House Detectives housing research and the photography element of current and archive images of the town.
To celebrate this fact and to enable us to share what has been discovered so far we are holding a social event in the Terrace Suite, Campus West on Thursday 7th April at 7.30pm.
My Visit to Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies

"We decided to find out more about our new house by becoming House Detectives for the day at Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies library at County Hall. Susan Flood gave us a tour of all of the different rooms so we could see what was there.

The Where Do You Think You Live? project was launched in September 2010 with the aim of encouraging WGC residents to discover more about the history and development of the town.
On Tuesday 8th March 2011 a group of our House Detectives visited the Mill Green Museum to see the archive material held there relating to Welwyn Garden City and to take in the current exhibitions such as the Brave New Vision: 90 years birthday of Welwyn Garden City and Open all Hours; Shopping in Welwyn Hatfield. This was part of a series of talks and other events that the Trust has been running for the Where Do You Think You Live? project with help from HALS, WGC Library local studies & Welwyn Hatfield Museum Service. Trustees were out celebrating a major coup following news from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The Trust had applied for £50,000 to finance their “Where Do You Think You Live?” project and were awarded the full amount. Champagne was the order of the day and the Howard Memorial seemed a fitting place.
Absolute delight was how the Trustees of the Welwyn Garden Heritage Trust (WGHT) greeted the ‘fantastic’ news that the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) had approved their bid for £50,000. The funding is to support a broad ranging heritage project in Welwyn Garden City.
We all know how lucky we are to live in Welwyn Garden City. You may be surprised to learn, however, that many people throughout Europe know this too and want to spread the word across the continent about how special garden cities really are.
A new arrival was welcomed by the Trust recently and will be a major asset in the various activities now facing it. Many residents will remember Adrian from his time in Rooks Hill when he commuted to London where he was a senior member of the Ove Arup team, a major worldwide planning consultancy.
