A Town Trail Followed Report

On Thursday 30th June 2011, a dozen House Detectives from the Where Do You Think You Live? project dodged the showers to enjoy a guided walk around some of the oldest parts of the town.

We compared maps to learn how the town had developed. Our explorations took us past some of the very few houses to pre-date the building of WGC as well as the first new houses to be built.

The walk clearly showed how Sir Ebenezer Howard’s ideals had been followed through the creation of little closes to appear like ‘village roads’. We admired the strategically placed trees and learnt why poplars had been planted in Parkway Close.

Our thanks to Angela Eserin and Tony Skottowe for taking the time to share their knowledge.
