First Major Grant For Trust

Celebrations were the order of the day as news came through of a gift large enough to enable the purchase of recording equipment for the project to collect memories.

The funds were the gift of a charity with close links to the town and its ideals. It was the nature of the project that excited the trustees of the charity as it something quite new to Welwyn Garden City. A similar operation has been run in Letchworth Garden City but that was started some years ago and has resulted in a series of books.

The Welwyn Garden plan is to store the oral history electronically on the latest technology. This approach opens up many possibilities for the ways in which the contents can be made available to the public, not least via audio in a museum environment so that the memories will come across in the voice of the person recalling them.

The project is being supervised by Christopher Cory and he would welcome suggestions for suitable interviewees, whether they have first hand recollections or reminiscences heard from family or friends. If you, or anyone you know, would like to contribute to the story of Welwyn Garden City please let us know; Christopher can be contacted via his council email This email address is being protected from spambots.
