Addition to online Photo Gallery

Pinnate Place - childrens playing area - April 1969

Some additional photographs have been added to the Photo Gallery on this website. During the Where Do You Think You Live? project WGC photographer Ken Wright very kindly allowed us to scan a quantity of his photographs to add to WGHT digital archive.

Ken joined the newly formed WGC & Hatfield Development Corporations in September 1948 as a junior draughtsman. He was a member of the Engineer's department under the Chief Engineer, John Skinner. "Around 1950 I bought my first camera and later set up a darkroom at my home. The Chief Engineer seeing that I had some skills with a camera asked me if I could take some progress photos of the construction work taking place in both towns. Later on other departments within the organisation seeing what I could do also asked me to take photos for them as well. Most of the photos were for publicity showing developments in both towns and were used for Annual Reports; booklets, etc. and were sent abroad through the Central Office of Information. My photography continued until what had now become The Commission for the New Towns closed down in WGC and Hatfield in 1982 and most of the assets were transfered to the Welwyn Hatfield District Council."

The Trust is grateful to Ken and to Homes & Communities Agency who own the copyright to these images for allowing us to make use of these photographs.
