Barcley Corsets - gentleman's corset!

Barcley Corset gentleman's corset

A very unusual item has been photographed and added to the archive as part of the Trust's current Where Do You Think We Worked? project. It is a miniature of a gentleman's corset made at Barcley Corsets in WGC during World War II.

Pat worked for the company for several years and has been kind enough to contribute her memories of working there to the Trust's 'Where Do You Think We Worked?' project. Pat worked on womens' corsets but some of her colleagues, who made menswear at Barcley Corsets, made this memento for Pat's husband Harry who had been called up to fight during WWII. Harry carried it throughout the War and brought it home to Pat who has kept it to this day.

In the photograph below you can see that the buckles have been stamped with the name 'Barcley'.
