Archives & Local Studies Talk Report

On Saturday 21st May 2011 a talk was held in the Dorothy Hess Room in WGC Library. The speaker was Lewis Stockwell who is a research student at the University of Hertfordshire and had agreed to pass on his experience of using the archives at WGC Library and at Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies at County Hall, Hertford.
As part of the Where Do You Think You Live? project Lewis undertook to research the history of the Old Cottage which involved accessing material from WGC and Hertford. His findings can be viewed on the Our Welwyn Garden City website - click here to go direct to his page on the site.
For the benefit of those signed up on the project as House Detectives who are carrying out research into the history of their own homes Lewis has put together a sheet of notes which can be downloaded here. It was a very enjoyable event with additional assistance given by Angela Eserin local historian and ex-local studies librarian for WGC - enabling those attending to delve into some of the material available in the local studies collection.
