Who Do You Think You Are?
Or should that read 'Isn't that... ?' We all thoroughly enjoyed the programme but just in case there are some amongst you who missed the BBC1 'Who Do You Think You are?' episode broadcast in July featuring Una Stubbs we thought we'd remind you that it is still available to view on the BBC iPlayer.
Never having met her paternal grandparents even though they didn't die until she was in her twenties, Una, who was the face of Rowntree's Dairy Box in the 1950s, is amazed to discover that her grandfather worked for the chocolate manufacturer thirty years before. When increasing mechanisation put her grandfather out of a job, the family relocated to Welwyn Garden City. By extraordinary coincidence Una's maternal great grandfather was Sir Ebenezer Howard, founder of the Garden City movement and the creator of Welwyn Garden City.
You may well have recognised several contributors to the programme - Sue Flood who only recently retired from her post as County Archivist was filmed as was Dr Mervyn Miller who gave the Second Garden City Lecture at Campus West in June this year. We were particularly pleased to see Una in WGC, meeting with local historian Angela Eserin (picture above) - who is one of our Trustees!
