This scroll commemorating over 25 years service was given to James Gray by staff at the Shredded Wheat Company Ltd. It states that the scroll is presented as a mark of high esteem and affection by his colleagues & associates, as undersigned, representing all departments of the Company. It has the dates 1919 and 1948 on either side of the central text.

Shredded Wheat packing ladies hard at work - putting 12 iscuits into each pack. The staff here would be working one of 2 shifts a day from 6am-2pm or 2pm-10pm - there was also a night shift but this was men only. Workers were bused in from surrounding villages.

Thanks to David for donating this Coronation Issue of The WELGAR News to our archive. Dated May-June 1953 it includes articles on how & where Welgar employees watched the coronation, a visit to the factory by the Vice President & Director of Production of the Canadian Shredded Wheat Co., a commemorative medal awarded to the company by the Organising Committee of the XV Olympia Helsinki 1952, and an enthusiastic reception for Nuts In May a show put on by employees on the Bryce Hall stage!
